Daisy-May self-distributed through Picturehouse Cinemas & Curzon with an extended cinema run. The film had an official partnership with Shelter for its 50th Anniversary. As well as screening at City Hall and Houses of Parliament - with Half Way being the first ever film to be used as official evidence in a Parliamentary Enquiry into Homelessness.
Half Way invites us to witness at close hand the stark realities of homelessness in Britain today through the personal story of Director Daisy-May Hudson who, over a year, filmed her own family’s right to retain their dignity while waiting for council rehousing.
But this is not the usual tale of gloom and dependency in an increasingly difficult economic climate. This is an extraordinary story of courage and determination, a story of family bonds that is both heart-breaking and life-affirming, combining moments of tremendous tenderness and grit with unexpected humour.
When Daisy-May became homeless with her family in 2013, having never made a film before she began to film everyday in the hostel using a DSLR camera. With over 500 hours of rushes, once they were re-housed, her and her two best friends that came on as producers to make Beehive Films Ltd. crowdfunded £15,000 to edit and complete the film.
